"The Gunslinger and the Dark Man" is a novella originally published in the November 1981 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.
The story is preceded by "The Slow Mutants," and followed by The Drawing of the Three. Included in the novel The Gunslinger, the title was changed to "The Gunslinger and the Man in Black."
