"Stationary Bike" is a 34-page short story originally published in the fifth edition of From the Borderlands in 2003, and later included in King's own 2008 collection, Just After Sunset. An audiobook version, narrated by Ron McLarty, was released in June of 2006.

Summary

The story concerns commercial artist and widower Richard Sifkitz, who has a passion for consuming unhealthy foods. During a visit to his doctor, he is told to lose weight, and so invests in a stationary bike. In order to occupy his mind during his exercise routine he paints a captivating mural portraying a road cutting into a forest, which gradually metamorphosizes into a doorway that leads Sifkitz to a haunting confrontation with a disgruntled construction crew.
