The Overlook Hotel was a secluded hotel located in the Rocky Mountains. During one winter Jack Torrance lived there with his family, when Jack worked as the hotel's caretaker when it was closed for the winter.

Andrew Pomeroy, a painter, was employed by a magazine to sketch the ruins of the hotel.
