"N." is a 54-page novella originally published in the 2008 collection Just After Sunset; in early 2009, the story is set to be adapted to a graphic novel by Marvel Comics.
The story concerns the psychiatric treatment of the obsessive-compulsive N., an accountant and amateur photographer who believes that he is responsible for the security of a portal between worlds, by Dr. John Bonsaint. The narrative follows N.'s sessions with Dr. Bonsaint culminating with N.'s suicide, which prompts Bonsaint to investigate the source of N.'s neurosis where he himself falls victim to the same condition.
