Mrs. Cowan is the mother of the late Frederick Cowan and a minor character in the horror novel, It. She married Richard Cowan sometime between the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Her two-year-old son Frederick Cowan, was one of the many ill-fated victims who perished at the hands of the demonic creature IT in the spring of 1985. During the time of Frederick’s murder, she was outside the family’s backyard hanging their washed clothes. Cowan became permanently insane not long after the tragic death of her son. She was eventually confined to a local mental hospital.
