Mobico

Mobico was a prop gas station located somewhere in Rockbridge, California, and was created by director John Carpenter for Christine's Fiery Fury scene, in which Christine chases Buddy Repperton, in a roar of flames.

In the movie, Christine causes the gas station to completely explode after slamming Buddy's '67 Camaro into the walls of Mobico's auto repair center. The building went crazy, and spontaneously exploded after Christine left the wreckage. The building was totaled during this event, and afterwards, Buddy Repperton dies after Christine runs him over while still on fire.

First And Only Appearance

Mobico first appeared when Buddy Repperton was being chased by Christine. He made a stop at the Mobico gas station to make sure Christine didn't come near him. Sadly, Christine somehow managed to find him and slammed right into his 1967 Chevy Camaro, and then proceeded to do it again, this time slamming it into Mobico's auto shop. Gasoline than began to leak from Buddy's car, and caught his car on fire, which caused the interior to go up in a roar of flames. Christine, however, emerged from the flames, left the scene, and then began her pursuit after Buddy. We then cut to a clip of Mobico spontaneously exploding, and then Mobico is never seen again.

Trivia

• The crew of Christine actually built a full-size gas station in the middle of nowhere just for the sake of blowing it up. This meant that Roy Arbogast could play properly with pyrotechnics.

• During the filming of the movie, this was a dangerous stunt for Terry Leonard. Not only was the entire car on fire, but the entire interior of Mobico was entirely on fire. The heat of the fire was so intense that all of the oxygen was being sucked right out of the car. To combat this, Terry Leonard used a heavy fire suit that they used on airports to fight airplane fires. The fire suit came with its own oxygen supply which was urgently needed to prevent prolonged exposure to the enormous amounts of heat, and Terry Leonard could've passed out had there not been a fire suit provided during filming.
