John Rainbird was a Native American, working as an agent/assassin for The Shop. He was a badly scarred Vietnam veteran.

He is a psychopath obsessed to know what is beyond life through his victims, which is why he kills them while he can look them in their eyes..

He killed Andy McGee and Joseph Wanless. After killing Andy, he tried to kill Andy's daughter Charlie McGee, but she melted the bullet and burnt him and James "Cap" Hollister to death (in the book).

Trivia

  • Although he is described as Native American in the book, he is portrayed by white actors in the film (George C. Scott) and in the sequel (Malcolm McDowell).
