Joe Conklin was a former convict from Maine and a minor character in the horror novel, It. Together with his brother Cal, he would often accommodate Al and George Bradley (leaders of a well-known criminal organization that operated throughout the 1920’s in the town of Derry) in their illegal activities (which often involved raiding financial businesses and organizations).

The Conklin brothers (along with the rest of the Bradley mob) were gunned down and killed by several of Derry’s citizens in a fierce shootout late in 1929.
