Herbert "Herb" Smith is the son of John Smith, the husband of Vera Nason, the father of Johnny Smith, and the grandfather of J.J. Bannerman.
In the episode "Denoument", it was revealed Herbert is alive and that Johnny and his son J.J. inherited their psychic abilities from him.
