Glendon Pequod "Glen" Bateman was an assistant professor of sociology at Woodsville Community College in New Hampshire.
After the superflu had run its course by July of 1990, he adopted a neighbor's Irish Setter, renaming it Kojak. Shortly afterward, he encountered Stuart Redman, who was walking east from Stovington, Vermont.
