Arlen Bitterbuck is one of the Death Row prisoners in the The Green Mile. He is a Native American who was found guilty of killing another man during an extremely violent bar fight over a pair of boots. Because of the seriousness of the situation, he was sentenced to death by means of electrocution in Old Sparky. In Paul Edgecomb's story, Arlen was the first to die on the death row list.
He was scared when the real deal came but tried to stay brave as he walked down the Green Mile. His final words were ¨If you think a man deeply regrets something he did wrong, he may get to go back to the time that was happiest for him, and live there forever. That be what Heaven´s like.¨ This proves that he regrets his actions. He also reflected on his best times with his family during his last meeting in his cell with Paul before he was executed. The character is portrayed by Graham Greene in the 1999 film adaptation.
