The ghost of April Rimbauer

In the early 1900's, in Edwardian era Seattle, six-year-old April vanished into thin air and mysteriously disappeared while playing tea-time in the kitchen within the mansion Rose Red, never to be physically seen again. Ellen was convinced that the house was responsible. It is also hinted and strongly implied in the tie-in prequel novel "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer", that Rose Red became jealous of April and Ellen's close relationship because the house basically wanted Ellen all to itself. With April lost somewhere deep inside the walls of the house, this also guarantees that Ellen will never leave the estate, not without her missing child.

After murdering her cheating husband, Ellen then used nearly all of her dead husband's immense fortune to continually add to the never-ending growth of the home over the next several decades, enlarging it significantly (in a plot element reminiscent of the real-life construction of the Winchester Mystery House). Ellen also held on to the hopes of believing that if she kept building the house, it would release her lost daughter April and give her back. Ellen even began to hear voices at night promising that if she built a tall tower in Rose Red that the house would reunite her with April again.

Once the folly tower was completed, April's spirit lived within the tower. Ellen would go to the tower frequently and visit with April's ghost.

After being consumed and absorbed by the house, April ultimately became one of the many supernatural beings that haunted the Rose Red estate.
