I definitely feel you on that one. I treat all of my books like absolute idols before god, and I do get unreasonably annoyed whenever the cover gets creased. At the same time all of my paper backs are very old and falling apart, so it does make me very sad.
Agreed. But it isn’t quite useless. In “On Writing” Stephen King states that he got the original idea for the story while at a school, and saw that there were period pad dispensers in the grammar school bathrooms. He made a comment along the lines of “oh is that really necessary at that age”? And in response someone else replied and used the phrase “plug it up”. That is how he got the original idea, and what the girls chant in the locker room; plug it up. Having Carries mother called to the office because of this, is also essential to the storyline.
One of the first books of his that I read was The Eyes of the Dragon. It is less intense than the majority of his books, and I, and my parents, deemed it appropriate for a twelve year old me. It is a story of knights, chivalry, and well dragons, and might be what you’re looking for.
I’d say all of the ones you listed. Personally The Stand and The Shining are my favorites out of those. I would also recommend Insomnia.
It is a very good book. I read it recently and enjoyed it a lot.
Sorry, I can’t say which one is more accurate. I haven’t read the book or watched the movies, although I plan to.
Well, I don’t believe all of them are connected. Some are connected. For example most of the stories that took place in his fictional town Castle rock are connected in someway; i.e. mention of the same place, same character, same part of the story line, or something like that. For instance the novella The Body shares the character Ace Merrill (and place/setting) with the novel Needful Things. Otherwise there are some books like Eyes of the Dragon that share virtually no connection with his other books.
Great! I’m halfway through, and I can say it has been really good so far.
I think one of his short story collections like Night Shift or Skeleton Crew. They give you many short examples of his writing style, and display a lot of the different ways, and things, he writes about. They also really stick with you, and are some of my favorite works of his.
I would also have to say Castle Rock. Not only do those books take place there, but Needful Things, The Dead Zone, The Tommyknockers (my personal favorite) and The Dark Half do as well. It is also mentioned in many of his short stories. I think it has the most history, and is the setting of many of my favorite books of his. I also love that it is completely fictional, and all the stories mention each other or are intertwined to some degree. Like how The Body and Needful Things share a character.
Favorite books:
Insomnia
The Stand
Tommyknockers
Favorite movies:
Shawshank Redemption
Trucks (maximum overdrive)
The Shining
Least Favorite books:
Absolutely none.
Least Favorite Movies:
Tommyknockers
Pet Sematary (new remake)
Agreed. I’m only 200 pages in but I absolutely love it.
Yep. That movie is really cool. AC/DC did the soundtrack.
Welcome.
I would recommend you read Insomnia next, that is my personal favorite. It’s also definitely on the longer side, but so are the other books you read. If you want something shorter I would go with The Green Mile, or Tommyknockers.
That is probably my favorite Stephen King book. I love the idea of the auras and the three fates. He also makes you really love the characters.
I think The Stand is the longest book, especially the uncut version. And I’m not sure what the longest movie is, but probably It.
I agree with you on that. I guess he didn’t do it because he couldn’t risk losing his job, because they were in the depression. If he did try to fire Percy there would’ve been a lot of questions on why he would want to do that. And the fact that Percy wasn’t a good person, and that he wasn’t a good fit for his job, probably wouldn’t be good enough to get him fired. Or at least it would be very hard to convey it in a way that would be convincing. Although if you mean after Delacroix‘s execution, I do completely agree with you. After that he had a very valid reason to have Percy fired.
Movie would be the shining or Shawshank Redemption
Book is Tommyknockers and The Stand, also insomnia.
Yes, the poem is:
Late last night and the night before,
Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers
knocking at the door.
I want to go out but I don’t know if I can,
‘cause I’m so afraid
of the Tommyknocker man.
It’s just listed as a traditional poem with no author. And I do highly recommend that you read the book, it’s my favorite.
