The portrayal of Wendy Torrance in The Shining was one of Stephen King’s most hated elements of the film adaptation. King envisioned Wendy as initially a strong woman who succumbs to fear over her time at the Overlook Hotel. Jack Nicholson also thought that this should happen with her character, which is why he pitched the idea of casting Jessica Lange to Kubrick. Kubrick rejected the idea and said he wanted Duvall in the role, which for some people is where they start to criticize the movie. Duvall was nominated for a Razzie for the role, which she thankfully did not win since she was put under so much stress during the shoot.
