2020 has been a crazy year and everyone got allot of free time. While some people learned how to make banana bread I was binge reading Stephen King Novels. I have currently read 24 Stephen King novels, and I’ve come to the point where I’m reading to rank them. So here you go!
24. The Dark Half
The Dark Half is my least favorite Stephen King novel. It has a very interesting concept but doesn’t explain it enough for me to be interested.
23. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, is a drawn out story about a girl lost in the woods. It’s starts off interesting enough and the summary really intrigued me. But sadly the book drags on far to long, and I just end up being bored.
22. Finders Keepers
Finders Keepers is the second book in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy and is sadly the worst. The story itself is written good, but there are far to many plot points and scenes from different books that are in this one, mainly Misery. I read Stephen King for the story and some cool, new, ideas. Not a rehash and what I’ve already read.
21. The Running Man
Very interesting concept, and allot of thought provoking ideas in it. It’s a good reflection on the world we live in and what may become of it. Overall a very interesting idea but sadly doesn’t hit the mark for me.
20. End Of Watch
The final book in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy takes the supernatural route and leaves the everyday world behind. I fairly enjoyed this book. The recurring characters are once again amazing, and the ending has lots of emotion. I honestly liked this book, and I suggest you check it out once you read the first two books from the trilogy.
19. The Long Walk
Another great concept that is better educated than The Running Man. But it does feel dragged out in allot of places and some plot points reveled by the characters feel out of place.
18. ‘Salem’s Lot
A great classic Vampire story that is intense and interesting. Overall a good book but not one of my favorites.
17. Pet Semetary
The darkest novel written by King and one of the best. Another great concept that intrigued me allot. Overall a good book that I recommend.
16. The Outsider
A dark novel that acts as a spinoff to the Mr. Mercedes series. The book, like Finders keepers, takes allot of stuff from other novels like, Mr. Mercedes, The Dark Half & It. If it was more original it would be hire up.
15. Firestarter
Well paced, well written and very enjoyable.
14. Geralds Game
A brilliant idea that is filled with greatness. I loved this novel. The main character is developed amazingly, and the book is packed with emotional. It also has the scariest scene I’ve read with the Spacecowboy.
13. Cujo
Cujo! Cujo! Cujo! God I love this book! So much emotion and allot of payoff at the end. The only drawback to this amazing book is the intersecting plot lines. There are three plot lines going on at once around the middle through end of the book and one of them doesn’t really have any payoff, it feels like padding.
12. The Green Mile
Wow, what an emotional journey. I can totally see this book becoming the new ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ that everyone in school would read. It has a big statement to make and is a very emotional story. And Mr. Jingles is so gosh-dang cute.
11. It
A terrifying novel that is greatly crafted. Truly one of the best. Some of the scariest and emotional moments are in this book. It’s a great read and one that will actually make you invested. You feel like your in it, and you root for the characters. They get excited you get excited with them.
10. Needful Things
This story is definitely a slow burn. But once it gets the the climax it explodes. It’s great, I loved it, and you’ll probably love it too. The only problem I had was their were allot of characters and the endings isn’t as satisfying as I wanted it to be.
9. The Stand (complete and uncut)
The Stand is probably Stephen Kings biggest project to tackle, with the big sized scale the story takes place in. I absolutely loved The Stand and it’s a good reflection on 2020.
8. Mr. Mercedes
This is the best detective book I’ve read. It dives into the mind of a killer and the detective that’s after him. It’s so good! The characters are well rounded and some of the best created, and the ending with have you dying with suspense!
7. Carrie
The simple story of a young girl, with some hidden powers. The perspectives this book is told through are amazing. Carrie White is someone you actually care about. It’s amazing to believe this is Stephen Kings first novel because it has so much confidence.
6. Dolores Claiborne
Dolores Claiborne is another emotional journey that makes you feel something. The story is told entirely from Dolores herself and it’s basically a reflection on her life. It’s powerful and moving.
5. Christine
Christine has no right to be as good as it is. The story is one of my favorites due to the way it’s told the way you feel through the whole story. It has emotional and haunting scenes that are amazing. The ending is one of the most satisfying as well as haunting. The novel is also a reflection on obsession.
4. Doctor Sleep
Not allot of people like this one but I don’t see why. The begging drags on a tad bit, but I wouldn’t consider it a downside because we are being really introduced to a character from a book from the 70’s, I’m glad we get see how the characters/character grows. The true knot is one of the most evil villains from Stephen King and I think they’re powerfully written. I loved this book and if you’ve read The Shining, you’ll love this. The ending is also one of the best.
3. The Shining
One of the most emotional and terrifying novels I’ve ever read. I can’t recommend this amazing book enough. It’s powerful and brilliant.
2. The Dead Zone
If you haven’t read this book, you better start now. It’s a slow start but once it gets rolling it’s amazing. Greg Stillson is written so realistically (especial related to today) that you side with John Smith right away. It’s amazing, it’s emotional and it’s realistic. And don’t get me started on the November Killer, one of the best secondary plot lines in Stephen Kings books.
1. Misery
The first Stephen King novel I’ve read, and by far the best. The book is written so greatly that you have to love it. Annie Wilkes is also one of the best crafted characters Stephen King wrote. I love this book.
Im still reading Stephen King books, but I just wanted to rank the ones I’ve currently read. This has been allot of fun, and I’d love to see your rankings in the comments!
