Did Eddie's dad getting sick and dying result into Sonia acting the way she does towards Eddie? or is it something else?
That's actually a VERY good theory! That could be what happened! Maybe it says in the book which I personally haven't read yet. But that could be it!

Yes that's what will be mentioned indirectly in the novel It. According to Sonia what she does is called protecting Eddie. I think it's mentioned like indirectly when Eddie argues with his mom in hospital or so..
